Looking for Beta Testers for a Blind and Visually Impaired RPG(self.Blind)
submitted by NotTheWrongAnswer
A friend (blind since birth) and I (sighted) are putting together an RPG with a focus on blind and visually impaired players. We are looking for Beta Testers. What is included is a minimum of one 4 hour RPG night with a unique (classified) game mechanic to determine success and failure.
The purpose of this game is to create a unique RPG that is focused on blind and visually impaired players and offers a personalized look at role-playing games. If you are interested, send me a personal message or comment below.

Is this tabletop? Or a video game.

Wondering the same too. It sounds like tabletop but not sure.

It is a table top. I wanted to get a true analog game that requires zero digital interface. I feel as though my team (myself and my good friend who is blind) have come up with an analog way to make RPG accesssable without using dice or apps.

Alright. After 8 months of radio silence, this project has actually sprouted some roots. I feel as though I owe everyone some more explanation.
This project was originally slated to be a full-fledged mega RPG which would sit as a nice little niche in the RPG world. After much deliberation, it was decided that this project would be best suited as a Zine for ZineQuest 4 (Kickstarter). The reality is that my co-creator and I are just not veteran enough in the RPG world to make a full-fledged rule system. For first-time creators, we believe that a Zine would work best.
WHAT WE HAVE:
We are aiming for a 24-page rules-light, core system that is easy to pick up and play. This game is being pitched as an interactive empathy-building exercise.
WHAT WE NEED:
We are looking for people who enjoy role-playing games who have an hour and a half (90 min) or more to beta test this game with my co-creator and me. We are looking to start running beta testing as of Thursday January 6th. Please keep in mind we are in the Eastern Time Zone (EST). People who still wish to be apart of this beta testing can reach out and book a time to have a Zoom call.
We are looking for the specific feedback on the following things:
* What can be done to make the game more fun * What can be done to make the game more accessable * Name of the gam * Name of the success/failure mechanism
WHAT WE CAN OFFER:
Everyone who Beta tests for us will get a free copy of the final game in PDF form. Also a special thank you in the credits.

TLDR; this is happening let me know if you want to beta test with us.

Things have hit a bit of a snag in terms of production. We are moving a bit more slowly. Will be following up in a bit

WOW! I have had a lot more feedback than I was hoping for. This community is amazing.
I will start off by saying I am terrible at checking reddit but I will change that since ... well now I can't let you guys down. I will be a bit vague on the specifics of how the game works since I think I have something unique and it might be a good chance on making things happen in terms of getting this game infront of actual people.
To answer a few questions that have been asked frequently. Yes, you can be a beta tester. I have made a few other games (never RPG's) and know that you can never beta test enough. That being said, we want to ship out physical components to those who are beta testing. We will be giving priority to those who either have access to a 3d printer or live in close proximity to us since we would be paying out of pocket to send custom 3D printed items. We are in Ontario Canada. Other than that, please tell us about your experiences with RPG's (do not worry if you have none).
The game itself is a tabletop RPG. It is not a video game or a pen and paper roll and write. There are two main guiding principles to this game: 1) This game must be analog. We wanted to create a unique system that didn't force the users to download an app or fiddle with things that would take them out of the game. This is an even playing feild for **all** players. 2) This game would be unique to the expereience of the blind or visually impaired individual. My co-creator is blind and has been since the age of three. This game doesn't move forward without his sign-off.

Nice I just recently discovered "a blind legend" which is a game sounding very similar to what you are making, and I really like it and play it all the time, I'm not blind BTW just really like the fact you don't have to look at the screen to play it
zersiax1 points2y ago
Sounds good, I'd be happy to help :)

This sounds amazing, when you send or PG is this computer or D & D because I would like to know why I probably won't be able to participate, but I wish you all the best of luck. Also, I would like to suggest that you also leave this particular comment if it is related to computer, in lazy game reviews because Clint though I'm not sure what his visual impairment is those actually work on it so he might be of some use. But if this is Dungeons & Dragons not so much.
NotTheWrongAnswer [OP]1 points2y ago
I am trying to figure out exactly what you are saying in this comment. If I understand correctly, you can't do it if it is D&D but you are excited about the idea if it is not?
If that is the case, this game is not D&D it would be it's own universe and rules. It would be its own system with rules on how to play. The game itself is shifting in terms of design since the foucs would be to cater to a particular audience. So if the game has broken elements from a blind or seeing impaired standpoint those core componnents need to change. If that makes sense.
The game would have its own rules and universe. I want to make a key component be about providing an analog game for blind and visually impaired players so step one is getting my community together and printing and shipping out the game components.

Allow me to explain, but first I do apologize for the confusion I have to use dictation software to other disabilities as well. Now, what I was trying to say is I'm excited either way but when I say it isn't anything like Dungeons & Dragons I mean to say is it tabletop I do apologize but normally when I hear RPG the first thing that comes to mind is Dungeons & Dragons regardless of whether it uses their system or not Dungeons & Dragons or computer usually that's what I think obviously they're all the games out there like a tan and what not but when I say Dungeon & Dragons I'm referring to his style of play, not necessarily the roof it and setting.
