Magnifier for reading (self.Blind)
submitted by cou7inho_
Hi everyone,

I have about 30% of vision capacity so I need to use, in some cases, a magnifier to read. Since the last year I am trying to spend more time reading some books but the magnifier that I use is not much comfortable because it's has a small area and I need to move it from the right to the left a lot of times.

This is the magnifier that I have been using: $1

I found $1 and it seems to be a good option for me because it is as wide as the book's page so I won't need to move it all the time from the left to the right. In addition the model that I am looking for has a magnification of 2x, 0.2x bigger that the model that I am using.

Does anyone use this king of "ruler magnifier"? Is It good option considering what I explained above?

Thanks in advance,

I think it would work as well without having to hold it away from the page, which can be the inconvenience with other magnifiers suggested here. It just won't magnify a lot.

I have a real big one of those dome mags I got back in high-school, I use it a lot. I also got page size sheet mags in hs too, they're not as strong, but work for reading larger print for me. Could try checking out some page sized ones here: https://www.maxiaids.com/page-magnifiers

If you have an Android or Apple device, you can download FREE magnifying apps. There are lots of them.

Another option is to get yourself a tablet computer and use a dedicated reading app/service like Kindle or Libby. These apps let you increase the font size and contrast as needed.

If you didn't know, Libby lets your check out ebooks from your local library (if you have a library card).

I am trying to use a "physical" magnifier instead of a digital one. However I will try an app like you said.

Thanks for your help

I have about 10% of my vision left and really enjoy the iPhone one thats built in. But having the bigger screen iPhone (I have the 11) would be a great idea.. The iPhone 7 was a bit small.. But I use it all the time to read my mail, signs and all the above. But I wish you luck on finding something that will work for you..

Apple also has a magnifying app built-in to iOS. Turn it on via Settings -> Accessibility -> Magnifier and it will show up on your Home Screen.
