Does anyone else’s eyesight shut off when talking, listening, thinking, etc.? (self.Blind)
submitted by Early-Time
I have eyesight in one eye, but was born blind. Am wondering if anyone else experiences this?

My eyesight shuts off when I’m engaging in a non visual task such as talking, listening, thinking, or touching something.

It feels like my brain can’t do both at once, like I have to be concentrating to see.

I’m not even sure if it has anything to do with my impairment, or if fully sighted people have this too. Maybe it’s just totally normal and I’m overthinking it.

I just wondered because my sighted friend says it doesn’t sound normal. Doctors have told me that some of my eyesight loss is because I was blind at an early age when the brain was supposed to develop visually.

I 'disconnect' from my eyes when listening or talking. I sort of look off in a neutral direction and focus. If my brain is trying to decode the bit that I am seeing, it distracts me from the normal communication. They don't shut off, but I cease trying to use them.

I think for VI and blind it's normal. I have met people who can only sense some light who closed their eyes when they talk and they mentioned they did it at other times as well. help the mind to be focused on what they are doing and not what shadow is what. don't know about fully sighted people, though I know someone with ADD who will stare at nothing when listening to someone talk so his brain doesn't get distracted, but that ADD.

what your doctor said makes sense and it's normal for sighted people not to fully understand this but there is nothing wrong with you, I got more sight in my left eye a couple of years ago and sometimes I'm still distracted that I can actually see more stuff despite always having sight.
