Shaving as a blind (self.Blind)
submitted by r_1235
This might not be an appropriate place to ask this, but I don't know about any other place where I can ask it.

So, I am aware that blind people can totally shave on their own, with normal raisers or even electrical ones. I prefer the electrical ones for facial hair, as I am just too scared of the sharp blades of normal raisers. But I am curious about how blind people shave their pubic hair.

I know that there are creams and stuff to remove hairs in the pubic region, but can anyone suggest any specific product. What to look for in a product, what to avoid?

P.S. I am aware that people can totally go without shaving, and it's fine. This question is for those who do shave the pubic regions and how do they do it.

Apologies if this was not the appropriate place to ask this kind of question.

NADS for men hair removal cream. You can get it on Amazon or Walgreen / CVS. just make sure you do a test patch to make sure you are not sensitive to it

I believe with no vision / limited useful vision, the logic for shaving there would be the same as the face or any other area of the body - being familiar with contours and where to hold skin taught.

Also, when it comes to knowing if you have a clean shave, sense of touch like elsewhere will be important, it just will naturally take more time. Bear in mind, sighted folk can't see much of that region and use sense of touch too!!

It sounds a bit rude but if you want to be clean shaved and not used to how to do it, you're going to have to feel around before you pick up the razor and tackle the area in small sections. Shave first in the direction of the hair growth, rinse / moisturise, and then shave against the direction of hair growth.

If it does prove too difficult, I'd recommend an electric shaver and trim with scissors where possible, ask your pharmacist for hair removal creams or consider going to a salon?

Hope this helps!

My wife is completely blind and keeps well groomed. She just uses an electric trimmer with a super short guard. Sure she could completely shave if she wanted, but doesn't want the hassle.

In addition to the tips provided by other comments, I also recommend considering investing in a good razor handle designed for non-flat parts of the body. That is, the kind with a little swivel ball just below where the blade clicks into the handle. This allows the blade to cling to your body a bit better on those curved surfaces because the blade can move forward and back as well as wiggle side to side a little. They are expensive but the handle is a one time purchase. Avoid razor handles that don’t allow the blade to move at all unless you’re an expert. Otherwise, I think it’ll just take practice and patience.

It’s no different from shaving other areas, from my experience. Can’t see anything but just use the razor and go by touch

I’ve never cut myself there

Well I use Phillips bodygroom.

I’ve become really familiar with my genitalia and use a small pair of scissors, pull the hair taught then cut, to trim up the area.
