LWhen I was a little girl I had a severe phobia of fuzzy things. From a fur coat I got for my third birthday to cotton balls and even cotton candy.once in preschool I got cotton glued to my hands and remember screaming and crying to get it off. and I don’t know where this fear came from but I’m very curious. Obviously I got over it long ago but I’ve always wanted to know why.

My daughter was the same, definitely preferred plastic toys like lego, blocks, vehicles than teddies. That has changed completely though. She also hated sand, grass etc. Now she's much much better. It's an interesting one for sure

It is very interesting. Now that I think of it I believe I liked stuffed animals but not cotton balls. I would have my mom smash cotton candy for me lol. I’m wondering if the light color had something to do with it as well.

I have heard of blind children having aversions to certain textures. Also, did you ever have a scary experience with something involving a fuzzy thing? For instance, could you have been bitten by a fuzzy animal as a kid?

When I was very young, my mom would rub my hands on all kinds of surfaces, and she would have me walk on barefoot on sand and grass. This was to get me used to different textures. She was told to do this to get me used to interacting with different surfaces because I could not see them.
That said, I prefer not to touch slimy things, but I can if I need to.

Same about slimy things😂. Nobody told my parents anything. Nobody gave us any help or advice about improving my life as a kid at all. The schools got me what I needed to pass but nothing else. This was the 90s so we didn’t have many resources like we do now.

You probably were made to touch a lot of fuzzy things or you touched something fuzzy and it freaked you out making you more tactile defensive about it. I know a lot of kids who don’t like sticky or slimey for the same reasons.

I think it started when my mom got me a fuzzy coat when I was 3. She said I was scared of it. Luckily they never made me wear it 👍🏻
