I appologize for the inconvenience. I am trying to understand how blind people experience IKEA products and would appreciate your help.
I am another design student trying to seek for help. I tried to read as much as possible and yet I didn't find all the informations I need so that's why I thought I would post and ask for your help :)
**Is there any crucial point that you consider as very important to improve in IKEA products?** Do you think it's important to improve the experience for these products? I get that the designers do not consider that some furniture is harmful for blind people, or do not include the blind in the possibility of assembling the furniture by themselves.
your help is very much appreciated, thank you!!! ( I appologize for any ignorance whithin the post, please notify me, I am really trying to learn )

Definitely!
If I could have the instructions in a format I could read, that would be amazing!

thank you for responding!
is it just the manual that you need it to be improved or the way the furniture is assembled as well? do you find the furniture easy to assemble by yourself?

I’ve never done it. But the manual would be a start.

which furniture would you like to make by yourself?
bradley221 points2y ago
Hmm, a wheely chair would be nice.

So I guess I’m not sure if you’re asking how bind people assemble furniture of what would make furniture dangerous to a blind person?
What are you trying to accomplish

IKEA furniture gathers two experiences. The first is assembling the furniture, the second is using it. I am interested in understanding what challenges blind people face in both of these experiences

What timing. I just did a search for Ikea here because Google isn't helping and I'm sitting here crying over chairs.
I called the store and they offer assembly services. I just want clear instructions in text format online.
To elaborate on the issue, I bought two LERHAMN chairs. The construction is simple enough that I understand which pieces are the sides and front and back supports. However, I have no idea which screws go where. There are a bunch of fat screws and some are shorter. Then there are smaller screws and some have pointy ends while others are dull, but I think I've figured those out. Then there are wooden pegs that are the same width as the fat screws and there are 9 of them, but the only text in the instructions says x4 x1 x4 x2 x8 x4 x4 so one of the pegs is the x1, but they all feel exactly the same.
When I search for accessible instructions, there is only an article from 2019 about Ikea making functional furniture for people with disabilities.

To update: One stupid chair is built and I have an extra wooden peg.
