d&D Beyond and NVDA (self.Blind)
submitted by CosmicBunny97
Hi all. I’m interested in learning how to DM, even just one shots, but not sure how to access the D&D books. How well does D&D Beyond work with NVDA? What are some other good resources?

NVDA works well enough accessing the books and most of the material on D&DBeyond, once you make an account and start buying materials, but things like the forums, comments, private messages, etc, seems to be extremely inaccessible. I submitted a ticket with the developers hoping to fix that a few months ago, but so far nothing has come from it.

The books it’s mainly what I’m curious about. It’s really disappointing that the other parts aren’t accessible though.

~~Are you on the Knight's of Braille Discord server? If not, I can send you an invite.~~ Hello, I'm an idiot who always overlooks usernames. I know the answer to this question lol

The accessibility of D&D Beyond has been discussed there a bit. I can't recall what the full of it is. From memory there's partial accessibility, I think that mainly relates to the character creator (does D&D Beyond have a character creator? I don't use it). You'll be able to get the low down on the server but.

Yes, D&DBeyond has a character creator, and it's accessibility is a little wonky. The worst part is trying to pick background aspects for your character. The best trick I found when using it is to hit the space bar when I'm making a selection, otherwise it doesn't work and you more or less get taken back to the beginning of the process.

Fancy running into you here!

Haha, yeah, I get around ;)

As far as I know, you can access the books as webpages, after you get them at D&D Beyond. I believe they're also available in audio format through Bard, if you're in the US.

Thanks! I did ask you about how it works with VoiceOver on the nights of the braille discord server. Thank you for answering my question again
MostlyBlindGamer 1 points 2y ago
Haha. The question comes up often enough that I start to forget.
