accessible web hosting? (self.Blind)
submitted by VulpineAdversary
I'm creating a website for my voice work, music and writing portfolio. As this stuff is pretty important, I'd like a stable and secure platform and don't mind paying for it within reason, preferably one I can use without sighted assistance. I have JAWS, if that matters. My familiarity with my options extends to little more than the names of the more popular ones: Wix, Squarespace, Wordpress, etc.

Which do you use, what do you like and/or dislike about it? I'm going into this completely blind, pun not intended, despite its applicability. Any help is greatly appreciated.

AWS will provide hosting, but it sounds like you're more interested in finding a usable CMS. You don't presumably want the fuss of having to learn to code web pages by hand.

I like Wordpress, but I guess that's because it's what I know. I learned HTML back in the 90s when you literally just paid for some space and used FTp to upload your hand-crafted pages to a server. I like the fact that I can turn out my own plugins for WP to make it do the specifics I need, and that I can blog via email etc. I've heard nothing good about the one-click site systems like Wix. At least Wordpress has a huge number of themes and such, so you can almost certainly find one that's both accessible and wmeets your needs with a bit of searching.

I'd say SiteGround, as I've had my site hosted by them for a good while now. Their site does change every once in a while but even if something breaks their chat assistance has been great.

I hate Wix with a passion that burns as bright as a thousand Suns. Not only is it not properly accessible, but it also makes it hard to create accessible content. You can't edit alt text for images inside widgets, for example.

I've heard good things about WordPress. I used it visually in the past and found the workflow decent.

I use AWS and it works quite well though there can occasionally be issues same as any other website
