I’m looking for advice from any transcriptionists (self.Blind)
submitted by blind_cowboy
I am having to transcribe some files, and time codes are required every 30 seconds. Using JAWS, or any screen reader for that matter, I can’t tell when 30 seconds has elapsed while typing. Has anyone found a solution for this, and if so, how do you do it?

Not a transcriptionist, just blind, but I would type the whole thing without time marks first, then skim through the audio to find where they should go and add them in.

That or find an interval timer for your phone or something. Have it make a noise every 30 seconds.

If I was desperate, I’d try to play the audio from my phone so I could check it easier

The first option is what I was already leaning towards. The timer wouldn’t work because of starting and stopping with a foot pedal while typing.

Open the file in an audio editor. Make a new file with a 0.5 sec tone and 29.5 secs of silence. copy and paste your click track until it's as long as the original audio then paste it beneath, at a quarter volume so you can still hear the voices.
bingo, a beep every 30s. export to your pedal player. Job done
