Looking for game suggestions! (self.Blind)
submitted by januaryinferno
Hi everybody!
I’m visually impaired and am losing more of my vision as time goes on. One of my favorite things to do with others has always been playing card/board games. I have some xl print playing cards that I use now, but I’m trying to find other things to play as well- I’ve tried googling things in the past, but haven’t found much. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Im legally blind and play a bunch of games that don't require much reading / have distinguishable cards. My favourites are:

- Uno (classic, nice clear symbols and colours)
- love letter (quick, 4 player, 8 different cards that are distinguishable but you'll have to remember their effects)
- Exploding kittens (5 players, cards titles are large enough for me to read and intuitive enough that you don't have to read the fine print)
- Jaipur (2 player, no reading and large distinct cards)
- Lost Cities (2 player, large cards with a colour and number)
- Hive (2 player, kinda like less complicated chess, each piece has a distinct bug on it)
- Codenames (2 teams, spin on articulate, generally take a photo of the word cards and zoom in on my phone but I think there's a large print version out there)

Not sure how applicable these are to your situation but hope it helps!

I'd like to add that braille uno and card decks exist, if large print cards aren't quite cutting it. Even if you don't fully read in braille, each playing card only needs 2 symbols from the alphabet to identify it, while uno uses several, sometimes including +.

If you like dice games there are tactile six-sided dice available. Polyhedral dice (like for TTRPGs) are a little harder to find, but you may be able to find them pre-made and there are files to 3d print them yourself. Six-sided dice can be found with regular raised pips, or you could get them with braille symbols. As with cards, all the tactile polyhedral dice I've seen use braille letters/numerals; the best designs maximize clarity and legibility.

If you're ok with digital, RS games and the Quentin C Game room are two applications that let you play board and card games accessibly on the pc or the web. This is what i generally do given how expensive most physical board or cardgames can get when you want them to be accessible :)

I have not, but my partner loves it. I’d be open to trying!

It really opens up the creativity I would highly recommend it even for people that can see

I enjoy large-print Rummikub (the tiles can also be brailled), Bop-It, Avocado Smash card game (requires vision but no reading- distinguishable cards), and Sudoku Touch (board game version of sudoku with braille)

Check out $1, they post board game reviews with accessibility in mind.
