I have RP, diagnosed 30 years ago. Similar visual range. I have the light swirls at times even with my eyes open. It’s typically after going frombrighter to darker environment, or after a camera flash. Not sure on exact cause though.

Interesting, thanks for your response! I'm 28, was diagnosed when I was 5, but I've only been experiencing this recently.
On reflection, that makes sense, as I mostly experience it when I'm going to sleep and waking up, and that's a transitional period of light to dark (switching off lights).
Edit: I've never experienced these swirls with my eyes open though. Maybe partially open, but not fully anyway.
