Do blind people also see a flash of white light when they hit their heads really hard? (self.Blind)
submitted by Akiari
A couple years ago I fell from a height of around 2 meters and hit something on the ground headfirst. The moment my head made contact with the ground I saw this very intense, bright flash of white that lasted for about a millisecond before my normal vision re-appeared. This incident happened at night where it was pitch black (the reason I fell in the first place) with no lights on anywhere so it was just me. I googled it and apparently it's common to see a white flash when you hit your head really hard but I was wondering if the white flash occurs to blind people as well?

I've never bumped my head that hard except maybe in an accident with a train, but when that happened I still had usable residual vision, and I can't really remember what happened anyway. Regardless I believe you experienced seeing a mechanically induced $1.

Despite being totally blind now, I do experience phosphenes in my right eye along with hallucinations of seeing the real world in my left eye since, although my optic nerves are completely destroyed due to glaucoma, my visual cortex is still fully functional..

I get a flash as well but it isn't exactly light per say, more like a blast of loud static, or an electrical arc.

I knew what you meant even before you explained it, because that feeling I get could easily be described as a flash even if I don't actually see it as such. However, I could also just as easily describe it as blackness, because it halts my perception of what's around me for an instant before it fades back in.

I know that's confusing but there it is.

I also commonly get a smell similar to ozone for what ever reason...
