Accomodations in classrooms? (self.Blind)
submitted by Jabez77
Hello All - First time here, apologies for the inevitable missteps.

I am newly vision impaired, no sight in one eye, diminished but still mostly functional remaining eye. I am NOT legally blind.

I am a music teacher, working with over 600 elementary students twice a week. I lost my eye a year ago after repeated retinal detachments, and preventative repairs to my good eye after I started losing vision there.

My question is for teachers and others in a similar situation: what accommodations have you found success with? I cannot recognize faces if someone is seated more than 10-15 feet from me, which is usually about half my class. I am curious about alternate lighting in a space, larger computer monitors or other assistive technology. Thanks for any insight you can offer!

First off, according to the government, you would be classified as legally blind. What if you set up a camera that could broadcast to an iPad? You could position the camera by the students so you can see they're individual faces. There's probably a specific device that will perform this same function.
