Is my vision considered a disability? (self.Blind)
submitted by Tapledacloud
So I failed the eye test to get a driver’s license although I have good enough vision to go on with my life normally (with glasses and contact lenses). However because I am short sighted I definitely can’t see very far ahead so when I’m applying for work and doing forms would I note this down as a disability? Or is that too much? As a side note, my vision used to impair my learning to the point where I had to sit in front of the class to see the whiteboard.

Legal blindness is defined as over 20/200 for acuity or less than 20 degree visual field. Do you know more details about vision?
Edit: this is reference to the US

I’m from the UK and I don’t know. I’m going to get an eye test with a doctor next Tuesday so I’ll post the details here.

It seems in UK there's need to apply for $1 and be "registered" as severe partially sighted or blind/"legally blind". Under that link it seems the procedure how it's all done to check if you're eligible good described.

Ask your eye doctor. Generally it has to be separate applied in some special forms to special institutions and they will check you if person is disabled or not it's not automatic and you can't just mark in forms you're disabled if you don't have certificate/proof etc just a note from your doctor or your words won't be enough.

It's not actually required. It just gets you easier access to some stuff, and almost everything I've ever tried has had a way to do it without being registered. Personally I don't feel like I need to be on an official database of cripples.
