Choosing a country for a blind future lawyer (self.Blind)
submitted by Jonikster
Hello!

My name is Constantine.

So, I'm a blind persone from Ukraine. I'm 19 right now.

My whole life I dream to be a lawyer and a politician.

Yes, I could work in Ukraine, also, I could moov to Russia. But what awaits me in the future?

Private legal practice as a lawyer, advocate.

My dream is not just to be a lawyer, but serve the state, for the people.

For example, in Ukraine, advocates are non-state.

Who would I like to be?

In Russia, there are prosecutor's offices. Prosecutors oversee compliance with the law in the country. If the law has been violated, they have the right to send a reasoned request to stop violations of the law.

I would like to be something like that.

Yes, in the USA, Canada, and other developed countries, I can get more opportunities for my self-realization. But! In addition to the paid and expensive higher education in most English countries, there is a different legal system.

There is no Constitution in the UK!

It will take many years to understand English Common law. And, it's not a problem.

I see the problem in another way. As I know, in countries with the english Common law, most lawyers are specialists in a specific field of law.

In Russia or Ukraine, for example, one lawyer can practice administrative, civil, criminal, family, housing, land, environmental law.

More than that! In the UK, for example, there are 2 types of lawyers. Solicitors and Barristers. First cannot participate in the higher instances of the court.

Most of all, I'm interested in administrative, civil and criminal law.

So, dear lawyers! Could you share some advice about choosing a country for me?

Thank you in advance!

UK lawyer here. I've practiced here for about 7 years. Its a good place to work, accessibility is decent, if fragmented. Cheaper than America by a distance and better employee rights as well. There are options if your English is good enough. You can do accelerated law degrees over 2 years instead of 3, things like that. Like most countries though, criminal lawyers don't get paid shit.

Hi, I am not a lawyer but I thought it would be good to say, we have two different legal systems in the UK, as it works differently in Scotland. You should definitely take a look at the Scottish and English legal systems to see which one you prefer. For example, in Scotland we have Advocates instead of Barristers. Whatever you decide, I wish you a lot of luck in your future!
