What do you think of the /r/TranscribersOfReddit community? (self.Blind)

I've used /r/DescriptionPlease and was happy with the results. I wish the big twitter and facebook snark subreddits had transcription by default, even if it was some kind of OCR bot. There are a lot of really good "picture of text" subreddits!

It's weird, because you'd think people could just copy and paste stuff in there, right?

It would make more sense to me to do that because it's faster. Someone told me people do that to make it seem more legitimate, but you could also just credit the person or link to the source. My theory is that Reddit gives more karma to image posts.
MostlyBlindGamer 3 points 2y ago
That's a good point - text posts didn't use to earn you karma. Then again, if the transcription were a top level comment, you'd get the link karma for the image plus the comment karma for the transcription.

I'm always happy to find a transcribed post! With enough magnification and sometimes color inversion, I can read most images, but the word "glance" doesn't come to mind.

It would be great if more subreddits required content to be accessible (when reasonable, at least). The one negative shit r/TranscribersOfReddit is that I never know if a post is transcribed, so I have to be really interested in it to go check and might still be disappointed.

If there's a particular post you're interested in that's not already transcribed you can also post it on r/DescriptionPlease 🙂

I didn't actually know about that, but if I'm interested enough to ask for a description, I might as well ask OP. It's a complicated problem.

They have a sister sub called /r/ToR_Archive where all completed transcriptions are posted. Hope this helps.

Hm. That sounds like an accessible version of r/all. Neat!
