Please. Even in the US, we have no accessible kiosks at places like grocery stores or doctors offices. It’s the most annoying thing in the world and I don’t like not feeling independent.

this is kind of sad. from what i understand, when touch screens are done right blind people like them a lot. some blind people seem to like voice over or talk back as their screen reader of choice.

I would love all kiosks to standardize having like, a big fuck off button that enables text to speech and then being able to just drag my finger down the screen as one would do with their eyes. It just makes sense.

i think the only issue with that would be privacy. if you are doing banking or something you wouldn't want people hearing all your details. so a headphone jack would be needed. but otherwise, i don't know why they wouldn't have a text-to-speech option. it wouldn't be that hard to implement. it will probably become the standard soon enough. too many accessibility laws would be broken otherwise.

Thanks for reposting this article! There are so few articles that focus on the inaccessibility of touch screens and kiosks, and this article delves into the details.

I'm also grateful as someone who founded a company to solve this particular problem and related problems of accessibility.
