Does anyone here use a switch? Are any games playable without any sight at all? (self.Blind)
submitted by Unlikely-Database-27
Kinda want one lol. Though I have no sight what soever. Would it be a waste of money? I used to play with friends but I always had help, as in it wasn't my switch so they did the setting up and what not. Would something like this be usuable for us blind folks, provided we could memorize menu layouts and buttons / joysticks?
Thanks all.

I emailed Nintendo a few years back asking if they could incorporate a zoom feature into the switch, 6 months later and an update, I found there was a zoom feature now installed on the switch and it makes it so much easier for me to read stuff on the screen. I think there's also a few contrast options but I don't think there's TTS yet. It is 100% worth contacting Nintendo's customer support team though, because they are actually really responsive to accessibility enquiries from what I've experienced.

I mostly play single player games that are easy to play or have almost complete audio dialogue. I was incredibly surprised with Fire Emblem Three Houses as I didn't expect so much of the game to have voice acting. I do sometimes play multiplayer when I have friends around, and they help tell me where I am on the screen.

It's a pretty neat little console.

Good to know their support team has been positive. Can't say the same for too many other gaming companies unfortunately.
Perhaps I will invest.

Yeah, I've contacted a few other companies about if their games will be accessible, and I've genuinely had some really rude responses. It was refreshing to actually get a positive response for once.

Yeah. Valve for one are complete shit. Don't even seem to care to put any effort in at all to try and make steam even the slightest bit accessible. Thank god for OCR I guess lol.

It's really surprising given that they're the biggest platform on PC. I don't actually use my PC much for gaming since I'm still chugging along with my 6 year old laptop, so I've not really had the PC experience.

I’ve managed to play through all of animal Crossing New horizons for over a year with OCR and the assistance of very nice friends. Mortal Kombat 11 is also very accessible because it has built-in text to speech in the menus. You just need help enabling it in the settings, probably the only time you’re gonna need sited assistance for that particular game. As previously mentioned, super smash brothers ultimate is pretty accessible. I usually only play one on one on flat stages to avoid falling. As well as Mario kart eight because of self steering. I’ve been curious to check out if paper Mario is accessible on the switch. With some sited assistance, you could also play family feud on the Nintendo switch. I’ve played with my girlfriend who help me navigate the keyboard layout.

Taiko no tsujin, its a rhythm game which after a while you could probably play like a pro!

I used to be a drummer and I've never heard of this game but after checking it out I'm definitely going to get it! I still have a \~fair\~ amount of vision with ever-growing blind spots. When we got our Switch about six months ago I discovered how much I now struggle with learning new games, especially visually rich ones like Pikmin and other 3D worlds like Mario Odyssey. And though I love those games and have managed to get alright at playing them, I've been thinking about getting some games that would be a little easier for me to play. I'm excited for this game - thank you!
Agreeable_Morning_60 2 points 2y ago
Definitely get it, they also have a RPG version as well that you can look into. And if you want someone to play with feel free to hmu!

I was just reading and watching videos about it, and wondering if it's any good without the drum accessory/accessories. The game itself is available for download right now for $10, but it looks like to get a drum is at least like $30. Do you play with a drum or the Joy-Con? Some reviews say it's only so-so without the drum.

The drum isnt great, unless you get the 90$+ one. I use the buttons on the controllers because the motion controls arent great. Still fun as hell using buttons dont you worry!

Oh interesting.

Honestly I don't know any, outside of the fact that a youtuber I follow has managed to play Mario Odyssey completely blindfolded. Though he is also a speed runner who has played the game like a million times before doing so. So I would imagine that it is more frustrating than it is worth for a first time handler.

Lol I used to win the shit out of mariocart coin runners blindly. Fun shit. Mariocart wii. Its definitely possible if you know what the hell your doing.

My vision is fine if I am allowed to stay in dim environments with consistent lighting (aka no traffic or street lamps, etc), so gaming is actually very possible for me. So the television brightness being turned down and the dark theme on the switch home screen is honestly plenty for me. But I do believe that some games could be figured out for those with less vision than I, it is just something I don't know the details of.

Yeah thats fair.

Following. I bought the Pokémon Switch when Let’s Go Eevee/Pikachu came out, but little did I know I would lose my vision a year later :P I’ve heard Pokken DX is accessible. Maybe Smash Bros? I’m thinking of trying out Let’s Go Eevee again, though I’m not sure how well it’ll work. I also wanna try Animal Crossing, but currently unsure on how I’ll read the text.

Lol I used to play smash ultimate before covid with friends in college, was playable for the most part, though in anything more than a 1v1 its kinda hard to tell where people are. And of course, theres the issue of falling off the stage. I would often have someone warn me if I got close lol. Still fun tho. Despite the difficulties.
CosmicBunny97 2 points 2y ago
Haha that’s awesome. I’d be keen to check it out someday.

1-2-Switch is very accessible, with almost all of the mini-games focused on audio and motion or haptic feedback from the controllers. I love playing that when I visit my friends who have a Switch.
Unlikely-Database-27 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
1-2 switch? This a game for it or something? Or a mini version of the console?
Marconius 2 points 2y ago
It's a game for the Switch. "1-2-Switch" is the title.
