Faster TTS engine for Android? (self.Blind)
submitted by blindsight
Using TalkBack, I have the speed set at the maximum rate and I find it too slow for certain types of activities (like reading fiction).

I've tried a few different TTS engines and none can go as fast as TalkBack, let alone faster. Are there any ways of speeding up TalkBack or are there any TTS engines that can be used that go faster?

If it matters, I'm using a rooted Pixel 3a, if rooting adds any more options.

I'll hook you up with eloquence for Android if you want.

Keep in mind that 32-bit applications are discontinued in Android, however.

Try reading it in Voice Dream? I would assume you would have more granular control, but I don’t get past 90% or so for my speed settings.

I'm content with how fast the compact voices from Vocalizer go. They all go the same speed but the premium ones are meant for natural reading whereas the compact ones are synthetic and don't suffer from distortion when sped up. I'm not sure if ESpeak goes faster and some people find it hard to listen to. Eloquence is the winner here, but is discontinued.
