I was using Windows years ago with Jaws. Nvda was not so popular and developed at that time now I use mac and I love it but sometimes I miss the freedom of Windows. Is there anyone who can inform me about if it is a good idea to start using Windows again or keep using mac
Mac is useful but it requires more energy due to its keyboard commands with voice over. Doing basic things were easier with Windows recently I started using an android phone instead of iPhone and Windows can help me more with android phone. But I can carry mac everywhere easily and it has a great battary performance. These issues will become a problem if I change my computer to start using Windows.

I've always used Mac, and have found it more accessible and reliable. It also comes with everything you need, out of the box. No need to install anything.

The two clauses in your first sentence are contradictory.

That's not Mac-specific. Windows, macOS, iOS, Android/ChromeOS, Linux variants... they all have basic accessibility out-of-the-box. And they also all have better options through third-party software, where the focus is on these specific elements instead of a small part of an entire operating system.

Why not give Windows a try by installing it on your Mac?

Here's a couple of quick suggestions to make VoiceOver keyboard shortcuts easier: . Set Caps Lock as an alternative VO key, so you don't have to hold both. . Lock the VO modifiers by hitting Ctrl + Option + semicolon.
Have you tried those? I find they make it a little more useable.

My wife uses Jaws for Windows. I recollect that you can get Jaws for OS.

I use both but find windows easier for complex tasks. Mac is a very visual operating system and stuff seems to move around in the dock which gets old

Personally, I'd stick with MacOS and use Boot Camp to install Windows on a hard drive partition, that way you have the best of both worlds. If you think key commands are difficult in VO, you should look into QuickNav and how to optimize your set up. I can navigate my entire computer and full websites with just my arrow keys alone when QuickNav is on, plus it's super easy to set it up to function like Jaws using the Tab key for navigation and single-key navigation if you want. It's definitely not nearly as slow or as buggy as Jaws and I feel that VoiceOver as a whole is a much better designed user experience overall.

If you were using windows, it will be easy to come back. I use both, but found that I lean more to the windows side these days. And NVDA for the win!

Hey, I’m also using a Mac but I don’t like VoiceOver on it. I’m looking at switching over to Windows ASAP and NVDA is really good. I like the idea of having more freedom too - more games/MUDs, it’s more used in the workplace, and I believe there’s things like Reddit for Blind.
Marconius1 points2y ago
That really depends on the workplace. If you work in Tech, the vast majority of the workplace uses Macs for development and general office use, especially if they are built around mobile apps.

I'd say ...put Windows on your mac and find out, either through bootcamp or vmware Fusion. If you like it better, find a windows laptop with a decent battery life, there's several. And if not, you haven't lost pretty much anything by trying.
