Does anyone else’s vision (what they have left) get worse the more tired you are? I started work today about 12 hours ago and I went from visual acuity 20/30 in left eye to 20/70. And on top of that im literally falling over trying to walk because my balance is gone due to my peripheral vision going. (I have RP and work at an ophthalmology clinic to check my eyes)

Edit: I read everyone’s comments. Thank you all for replying, glad im not alone haha after my 13 hour day my eyes still havent recuperated yet! But I gotta push on, right.

My nystagmus gets worse as my eyes get tired, so my vision blurs, or things start to wobble. And I get eye strain headaches if I’m in too much light for too long, which is most lighting determined by sighted people, honestly.

I don’t have nystagmus, but I do have astigmatism and I get the absolute worst headaches from looking at screens throughout the day. Zoom school was rough and now that I’m working remotely from a laptop, that hurts too.

My nystagmus gets worse too

I am a sighted teacher for students with visual impairments but what you describe is very common and normal. It's called visual fatigue and is one of the things we assess and accommodate for in schools.

For me, my eyes start to look like I'm looking through a dirty window when I get tired. My balance also goes to poop and my eyes dry out much faster than when I'm not tired (dry eye for the win!).

Mine definitely gets worse. On a normal day I'm fine, but after a very long day at work, about all I'm good for is a nap.

Either my nystagmus gets worse or my brain just says "f this" to compensating for it. I get eye muscle fatigue, my photophobia gets worse, and sometimes I get a mild headache.

I have an app on my computer that reminds me to take breaks every so often. That helps some.

Absolutely. When I'm tired or I've worn out my eye too much it has trouble focusing, and it tends to drift, and my vision becomes more blurred. My blind eye pretty much always turns in toward my nose, but my eye muscles are weak even in my "good" eye. My wife says she can always tell when I'm tired or stressed because my eye will drift inward.

VI here, hover around 20/50 on a good day, when I’m tired that can drop to 20/70 or worse depending on how sleep deprived I am. My nystagmus gets worse and things start to fall apart a little. Balance goes haywire and if the double vision kicks in that’s a sure sign it’s bedtime.

I find high contrast on my computer helps reduce visual fatigue and I don’t get as many headaches.

Not legally blind, I’d say I’m blind but can see a tiny bit. But yes, my eye will just…flick? And I see shadows of pillars and stuff. Makes me feel really dizzy

Absolutely it does. I've got knobloch syndrome, basically every degenerative eye disease in one, plus extra stuff.
When I get too tired, I feel like my right eye is going as blind as my left (left is 100% blind).
I become, somehow, even MORE near sighted (hyperopia becomes ultra-mega-opia, LOL) and there's an even more intense static over my vision. A bunch of other stuff happens, but I'm starting to get anxious just talking about it, lol

Once I recognize it, I stop what I'm doing (if possible), take a breath, then do what needs to be done, slowly, finish up a task, then find something to give me an energy boost so I can wake up a little and get enough vision back to make it through the rest of my work time.

I don't have RP but can relate to this. For me it's more of a sandwich. I'll start out the day with blurry vision, usually more in the left than the right. I'd guess my vision to be 20/50ish in the morning. For me this is caused by macular edema which gravity helps it go away a bit.

Midday is my best vision time. 20/30 for both eyes. As long as I don't look at something far away or close (like trying to read) for long periods, it will remain pretty clear until the evening.

It can depend on the day, but if my vision is gonna get messy it's at the end of the day. Left eye really starts to go full fuzz-ball. Right eye tries to compensate. One big headache, an off balance gait and my eyes are ready for bed!

Thanks for sharing. Always good to know we're not alone!

Personally, while my physical vision is pretty much correctable with glasses thanks to a neurological disorder I have visual processing issues which get exponentially worse when I am tired or overwhelmed. So even with my glasses on I often have trouble focusing on anything or understanding what I'm looking at and I have really bad reaction times to visual input and it's like objects blur together.

Makes it difficult to explain to people who don't know anything about the neurological side of vision though.

Come to think of it, yes it does get worse. Not to get too personal but after a particularly thrilling session of maritals, my vision actually gets much better for about 15 minutes. Not further away, just clearer overall. Maybe it's my nystagmus being tired?

I have a nystagmus, RoP levels 4/5 and 20/400 in my sighted eye by the way.

Yeah my acuity goes down with fatigue and eye fatigue, I have to take lots of breaks to rest my eyes.
