I notice this a lot in the disabled community as a whole too. Their disabilities are the ONLY defining trait they have. It's really annoying. I'm disabled as fuck. Eyes, ears, lungs, fibro, etc. But my disabilities are NOT the thing I'm known for more often than not.
People are supposed to be more than the sum of their parts, not one or two parts to the exclusion of all else.
