Replacing the battery in the Victor Stream creates new problems. Anyone else? (self.Blind)
submitted by scerwin
I bought a Victor Stream (latest gen) for my mom two years ago and she has used it enthusiastically every day since. Finally the battery pooped out and so I replaced it with a new one bought directly from Humanware. Now mom reports several new problems ("many wrong things", I haven't asked for details yet) that started the day the battery was switched. She did a hard reset, to no avail. Haven't called Humanware yet, but will.

Anyone else having this experience? Thanks.

You’ll need to provide specific details. Just saying oh, there are problems isn’t enough info for any of us to go on.

Sure, here's what my mom reported.

1.) the small light above the center top button does not go on (the wi-fi light)

2.) If I push the button to pause or stop listening, when I push it again to start listening again, the Stream turns off and then  reverts to the beginning of the book

3.)  If I fast-forward, it turns off

4.) If I try to listen to a new book selection, it turns off

5.) Normally, if I turned on the book at might to listen, it would go to the book I was last listening to, not anymore. Whenever I start listening at night, it always goes to one particular audio Word doc

6.) If I don't stop it, it keeps going, but never lasts the night. It never lasts for 15 or even 10 hours, even though the battery (bought from Humanware) is brand new.

Any thoughts will be much appreciated.

All problems were resolved with a simple fix: removing then reinstalling the battery.

Huh, weird. I was going to suggest possible corruption of the SD card, that can happen after a few years of regular use, but by the looks of it the battery probably wasn’t inserted correctly or something. Either way, glad you’ve solved it.
