Yes. Most modern day laptops have HDMI output, so you can connect it to a modern day monitor that takes HDMI input. This would resolve video output as well as audio output, if the new monitor has speakers. You could also use television, or any other device that has HDMI input if your laptop has HDMI out.
Older laptops may have VGA out, which can still be used but would not carry an audio signal to speakers. I suppose it really depends on how old your laptop is and what output methods are supported.

You definitely can. Maybe go 27” or larger
