Hiking/Scrambling? (self.Blind)
submitted by HeftyCryptographer21
Hey y'all. I have posted here before, but I was wondering if any of you guys have gone scrambling before? I don't have much vision, so I can go up no problem, but coming down I just kind of have to inch my way to the bottom. This is obviously not ideal, so I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions. Thanks!

Edit: I use a white cane day to day, but I prefer to use a hiking pole when hiking, as it is a lot sturdier.

I use a pair of hiking poles for the way up and the way down. I cannot really see much of what is going on with the trail, like rocks, tree trunks, and other hazards but I use my poles to catch myself if I miss a step.

For the way down I pretty much use the hiking poles as an anchor for each step. They touch down first and then I find my footing when the poles are stable. A sturdy pair of hiking boots also goes a long way to making sure you don't roll an ankle on a miss-step.

I end up with a crazy sore upper body after a hike because of how much I use to poles to stabilize myself.

Yeah, that is basically what I do too. Can I ask wha you do on the steeper downhill sections?

Ha sure, very steep sections usually do involve some sort of scrambling or squatting to slowly get down. Very, VERY steep sections involve ass-sliding lmao

There may be some places near you where you can hike up and zipline down, which may be fun in and of itself.

Damn, that would be fun. I live in the Rockies, so that is a possibility.
