Occasional vision treatments leave me vi for days at a time. How can I still use Android? (self.Blind)
submitted by TheQuarantinian
A variety of treatments will sometimes leave me seeing the world through a very thick fog and it takes a few days to clear up. I can PC by turning on high contrast mode in windows (left shift + left alt + print screen then enter if anybody needs to know) but even turning on dark mode on Android doesn't help - web pages insisrvon displaying text of a white background that washes out the screen. I looked at the web page for that zoomtext software and even they don't make it easy or possible to switch to a black background on Android.

Is there a way to invert the colors on Android, preferably something that doesn't require reading the screen to dig through several options to get to the settings?

I've also tried the built in screen reader but android responds to "read it" commands with "ok. Something went wrong, try again later".

There's an option under settings - accessibility for system wide color inversion. You can add a toggle for that to your quick settings and then you just click on that.

I use Firefox on Android with the Dark Reader extension to invert all websites.

As far as reading the screen, what you want is TalkBack. That's also under accessibility settings and it has a tutorial.

I'll add to this. In addition to being able to add colour inversion to your Quick Settings, there is the Accessibility Shortcut. This is basically a combination of keys on your phone (on mine it's holding Volume Up and the Power button together, but it can vary) that allows you to quickly turn on and off an accessibility setting. I've mine set to Invert Colours, so I don't have to struggle to find the setting on a really bright screen.

Also, if you need to zoom in on something to see it, you can triple tap the screen and it'll zoom in. Dragging with two fingers allows you to pan around, and triple tapping again will zoom back out.

Hope those help you out OP.

Yes! I didn't think of that, because I have the shortcut set to turn on TalkBack.

OP, and most people, should dive into the accessibility options and experiment with different things.
