At least once a week someone posts about discord on here.
is it really that popular within the BVI community and, if so, for what?
Do people use it for real-time voice chat, messaging, or a mixture of the two?

Discord is a lot of drama honestly. It's usually a good mix and you can find sub-discords for any subject. They also have been improving accessibility on it a bit.

Yes. The accessibility isn’t perfect, but it’s improved a lot since it started.
