Headlamps for partially blind (self.Blind)
submitted by clowntanner
I have choroideremia and it's essentially a progressive loss of vision, with peripheral vision loss already on the way out. I have also lost my night vision.

I would like to ask the community's advice.

For years I have used a ledlenser headlamp to help me see at night but it's getting on now. I am also needing more powerful light for the same result.

Does anyone know of a super good headlamp that I could look into? I want maximum lumens and preferably a wide angle of beam.

Before I spend money I thought I would ask an informed community. The best lamp I have found is: https://ledlenser.com.au/collections/2020-signature-series-headlamps/products/h19r-signature

Money isn't really an object given its importance to me. I just want to be able to see at night when I'm walking around.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you're going to use something with maximum brightness and a wide angle, I hope you are staying on your own property. I use an average brightness headlamp at night, but I'm still very cautious that I don't blind drivers/bikers/pedestrians.

Yes very much so. It took me a couple of years to manage that aspect of it.

What I use currently angles down to my feet so I can see where I walk. If it's facing up its because I'm away from other people.

Wow! 1200lm is bright! It’d be like having the sun strapped to your forehead. Personally I’ve found the Black Diamond Spot 350 sufficienot.

Maximum lumens is not always your goal. Some eye conditions don't do so well for certain types of light sources. And too much light can cause glare issues (for example, you turn your headlamp toward something reflective and dazzle yourself).

If you can, test one out and see. Or make sure the company has a return policy.

I personally prefer Nitecore devices (I have their headlamp that has a range of outputs) but have not used them with clients before.

This is really insightful. Also really on point. Thank you.
