Online School in University (self.Blind)
submitted by HeftyCryptographer21
Hello r/blind! I am going to university next year but due to some weird issues getting accommodations, I have to go to the smaller of the two campuses. This means I will have to take online courses until I can go to the bigger campus. I have only ever done online school for a few weeks at a time during COVID lockdowns, and I didn't really enjoy much. Does anyone have any advice or warnings about online school, whether it is related to Blindness or not? By the way, I and Deafblind, and use a braille display for stuff on a computer, plus some vision. The classes are asynchronous, meaning no live lectures. Thanks!

Hello! This is my second year of online school as a student with CVI. If you require any softwares for the material/online learning program to be accessible, I recommend you get those downloaded. Most schools will help cover the cost. I’ve found it helpful to email my teachers to let them know any accommodations I need.

Outside of accommodations, I like to make myself a schedule so my day has some structure to it. I have a designated area set up in my room so I don’t end up doing my schoolwork in bed or on the couch.

Oh, thanks! I don't need any software or anything, I just use NVDA with my Brailliant, but that is good to know. And the thing about not doing your schoolwork in bed is probably a good idea, especially when it is hot.
