Anyone here got any funny getting lost stories? (self.Blind)
submitted by Criptedinyourcloset
So, I’m blind and I like walking around my neighborhood a lot but with most things when it comes to moving around as a blind person sometimes I get lost. Once I ended up in someone’s backyard and it took me half an hour to get out. Anyways, that got me thinking. Does anyone here have any crazy/funny getting lost blind stories?

(TLDR) : I got lost for 5 hours in a massive American mall as a dumb European kid.

For context, I’m a French young adult who went VI at 15. So when I was 16, my parents and I visited Miami for a couple of weeks. We went to a mall called Sawgrass Mill. Now I don’t know if this is my worped memory speaking, but this place deadass felt bigger than my hometown. Definitely bigger than any mall I had ever been to in France or Europe in general. The thing had STREETS.

So me being a dumb kid, I just asked to stroll around alone and my parents and I decided to meet up three hours later in front of the Marshall’s. I go to one store and everything is fine. I leave the first store I went to and realise, fuck.

Where am I? I have no idea what’s around me, where I am or where the Marshall’s even is. Oh NO. I start looking for the Marshall’s from then on. Five fucking hours, walking in that gigantic beast of a mall, looking for a Marshall’s. I tried asking people for my way there, but everyone spoke Spanish. I took Italian in school, you’d think it’d be close enough to communicate, no way.

My dad found me 5 hours later, sat on a bench and trying to contact the French embassy, because I was convinced I will never be found again and that I will be stuck in the US forever. Oops!

Are used to live in Florida and I’ve gotten lost in that mall multiple times. Seriously, they should just create an app similar to Google maps just for navigating that mall. It’s insane. also, the whole Spanish Italian thing is real. Some people are just better at it than others. If you start speaking to me in Italian I’ll at least know a little bit of what you’re saying, and that’s probably because I speak Argentinian Spanish. Pretty similar to Italian. French Embassy part though is hilarious

I actually tried using Google Maps to find the Marshall’s, or at least the entrance we came in as, but it didn’t work, I was so desesperate haha. To be fair to the people I asked, I wasn’t that good at Italian at the time either! I’ve actually learned some Spanish since then, just in cse I get lost in another massive American mall. The fact that I tried to call the embassy is probably the funniest thing looking back, I genuinely gave up any hope and just thought they’d pick me up or something!

I once took another blind girl on a date to the cinema. I wasn't familiar with the city; we were in her home town but she'd never been to this cinema either. Using my phone, I found the address and it took me there, but when I opened the door, the smell wasn't right. This being the Netherlands, bike shops are pretty common, and it had that smell to it.

So I walk away from this door, plot the route again and it takes us right to that same door.

Finally, we decided to ask a passser-by where the cinema was. Turns out we were at the right location the whole time. There was just an escalator we needed to go down first in order to get into the cinema proper, and that was the source of the more rubbery smell I held for tires, but really was just the coverings of the escalator steps :)

I'm a visually impaired runner. I went to run a 5 mile loop once, and I took a wrong turn somewhere. Eventually I realized that I wasn't on the right road, so I turned and started heading back. I think the most depressing sign I've ever seen was that the city was 3 miles away. The run ended up being about 15 miles.

I later went on to get lost while running and accidently ran a marathon.

Off the top of my head, I've tried to get into too many strangers' cars.

Well once on my first day of middle school my dad was in a hurry and dropped me off close by. I’m legally blind. Anyway I figured I would just follow the kids in front of me. Yea they were elementary kids going to elementary school like 2 miles away. So I ended up lost sitting in front of a elementary school all day. I kept trying to call my dad but he wasn’t answering and I was running out of minutes. My phone didn’t have maps so yea I missed the first day.

Idk other then that I’m usually good at figuring out where to go since from a young age I didn’t have a mother and my dad was always working and when he wasn’t working he was drunk. So I went all around town by myself on my scooter. It was a small town though. Yea I never really got lost I did get kidnapped once and no one noticed but that’s a different story.

Parking lots on my arch nemesis Mrs.

When I attended an independence training program I had a thing called a monster I had to complete, where I would go to four different locations in four different areas of the Denver metro area. My second stop was a mall that I used to go to quite often without my sleep shades on. Since this is an 80 P program I had to go with my sleep shades on and find a specific store, well I ended up getting lost in the parking lot and missing my train to get to my third place. I had to call my teacher because I was getting all up in my head and starting to freak out.

Some say I’m still in the parking lot looking for the exit to this day
