My wife's RP is like that, she's told me that it's the less common form

Yeah that makes sense, I've just never really heard anyone with rp mention it before.

Subcapsular cataracts are associated with RP, they degrade central vision.

Good to know!

I'm 23, with RP. Mine's progressing rather slowly (I think) while my preipheral vision is okay, there's some degeneration there. My central vision has "sensitive" spots where I miss things that go through them, or in them in certain lighting.
They're not exactly blind spots because I can still see with them, but I easily miss/lose things with them and kinda move my head/eyes to adjust to see them.

Pretty similar to how my vision degenerated then, sort of like chunks of the world are missing and have been sewn back together really badly lol

Mine is tunnel vision and a general sense that everything is just darker than it used to be. But I understand there are hundreds of different types of RP so what you're going through might be perfectly normal for the type of RP you have.

Yeah, my rp stems from one of the rarer gene mutations so j guess it could be that

I have RP and my central vision has suffered the most. I think its more common to lose peripheral vision first with RP but it can happen the other way too. Both are normal with this condition. On a side note have you ever got a genetic test to see what type of RP you have? There is treatmen available if you have the right gene mutation.

Yeah me and my mum and dad and four of my sisters were all testes (wete all VI) and they found it was the CRX gene

Hi, there. My RP has mostly affected my central vision. I am 38 years old. I went through a rapid decline phase of some sort at 33. Prior to that I was losing peripheral vision gradually but then within about two years’ time I lost the majority of my central vision in both eyes. Not as common as classic tunnel vision RP but yeah it happens. I also recently developed cataracts in both eyes. Which sucks. About to consult a surgeon regarding removal.

I had cataracts. I also have RP like the OP talked about except mine was like a ring that closed into a disk in the center of my vision. I had cataracts remived 15 years ago.. The drugs were good but once I came out, and they told me about this before the surgery, My eyes had only one focal length... I discovered that one of the things I had been doing was moving stuff much closer to my face in order to read it at the time.. I am not sure the exact state of your vision but for me, I was pretty bitter about having paid an arm and a leg to have some of the blurryness removed and then finding out that one of my coping mechanisms was gone. So If you can read now make sure you ask the surgeon about what sorts of improvement you might see. and what sorts of losses you will be likely to have.
Which is to say I was not pleased with my cataract surgery but also, still consult with a surgeon and get some actual medical advise. I just wanted to add a couple caveats

Thank you very much. This is something I’m asking all friends blind and/or have had cataracts removed about. I appreciate your input and will definitely inquire regarding any potential negatives. Again, many thanks.

Yeah I just spoke to my dad who I inherited the disease from, he said its the way our particular form of RP affects us, he called it donut vision which made me laugh. I lost some of my central vision at sort of 13-14 but recently it's declined alot more (I'm 17 now), it's definitely a pain in the bum sometimes
