Question about using AirPrint (self.Blind)
submitted by amusingbush
Hey everyone. My mother is totally blind and I’m an only child so I I’m often the one who helps her navigate using her IPhone, Echo Dot, etc.

She’s come a long way since jumping into technology with her first IPhone 4 years ago and her latest purchase was a new wireless printer. It’s a Canon TR8620, compatible with Alexa. She needs it for the occasional web form for her social security and things like that.

It doesn’t look like Siri recognizes AirPrint and Alexa only prints certain limited items. Is there any type of voice command software or app that she can just tell it to print current page on her iPhone?

She can use voiceover to AirPrint but it seems rather tedious, although I’m sure she will navigate with ease as time goes on.

Thank you to anyone who has knowledge of this!!

not to my knowledge - the big companies are very protective of "play by my rules or go home" and don't like to interoperate more than they have to.

Maybe you can try asking the r/shortcuts subReddit to see if creating a shortcut is possible. Siri is able to recognize shortcut commands. I have one for BeMyEyes & I'm able to call a volunteer using Siri.

I second this suggestion. There could be a shortcut action for AirPrint, or some other way to get it to work with Shortcuts. Other than that, I don't think Siri is able to run a print command.

Oh that’s a great idea! I’m doing to look into that. Thanks for replying. Maybe one day I’ll talk her into creating a Reddit account for this sub!! Have a great day!
