I find the old version much more accessible. I use it with Distopia and Reddit4blind on windows sometimes when I just want the information on here.

I use a mix of old version and mobile, occasionally new version but not for this sub.
rumster [OP]1 points1y ago
yeah - i noticed the new version doesn't work well with nvda
hopesthoughts1 points1y ago
I'm using RSS reddit. Well as in I'm following the sub from my RSS reader, but I use the old version.

I primarily use BaconReader to interact with reddit, so neither.

Old Reddit: The new layout is non-condusive to easy navigation with a screen reader in my experience, at least compared to the ease of use of the old one.

I use the old version of Reddit. http://old.reddit.com/r/blind
You can navigate more effectively using B for button. The only place that does not work is r/politics. There are no upvote or downvote buttons when not signed in. Yeah, i look at Reddit at work but don't sign in...

Just tried old reddit, nuke it!But for real, ok there is a main landmark in old version, but then you navigate through the post via link, ok you can do buttons to be more quick...Idk, the new version is more efficient. Altho i havent tried chat, posting, but in the other hand i don't do that much.If you're useing an old version, why ? please enlighten me.Edit: i might qualify for a mobile version, I run my browser in windowed mode, so all the websites are displayed as mobile, much easyer to navigate. Altho i voted for the new version.

Edit: holy shit the formatting, but my every word is marked as spelling error, ain't fixing that. Sorry

The new version looks more like a feed. It has headings etc. It's been a while since I've tried it, but there were issues I had more with submission than navigation. Needless to say I didn't like it.
SightlessKombat1 points1y ago
I navigate by buttons specifically because that's more straightforward in old Reddit than it is with the newer one, unfortunately.
hopesthoughts1 points1y ago
Yeah much quicker.

Just to be clear - I'm not VI but... I have been using NVDA for 8 years now to learn its full use. I finally jumped on to v2 of reddit and the damn thing has been acting weird with it. So... I want to see if anyone else is experiencing the same issues. Thank you for your post.

It's not perfect, but reddit is somewhere in the top of my best experience delivering site (i group wordpress blogs into one). Haven't had any weird behavior, some accessibility features are missing (or a label for some buttons) but it's beyond of sub administration.
Just tried viewing profiles and I'm surprised that new version finally supports headings, if not that i think i might enjoy old version more. :)

In the old version you navigate with the tab key. Position the screen-reader at the Jump to Content link and then tab away. In Safari you may have to enable tabbing in its advanced preferences.
nullatonce1 points1y ago
And you throught every single link - author, subreddit, the options. How is this more comfortable than pressing h(heading) and then for example k(link) to get onto comments link ?
I truely don't understand :D
hopesthoughts1 points1y ago
Uh, that isn't how I use the old version. There are easier ways to do it than that.
Fridux1 points1y ago
Clearly you didn't even try it, because otherwise you would have noticed that the tab indices of links have priority over everything else in the old layout, so tabbing is the same as jumping from heading to heading in the new layout.
nullatonce1 points1y ago
The damn focus mode, i always forget it.
That's nice.
