School aged children and transportation (self.Blind)

Howdy, so I'll make this short.

I've been thinking about moving and I'm terrified. I have a kid who's 5 and in kindergarten and my only thought is how the heck do I get this kid transported to school?! Right now I'm relying on family but eventually I need to move out of my families place.

Do you plan to live near a school and hope they accept/have room for your kid? Do you hope your on a bus route and it doesn't even seem safe for a five year old to take a school bus?! How does it work?!

Sorry, I've never ridden a school bus so don't know much about them. Do they have bus access maps or something so you can find this out somewhere? Because where I'd move is dependent on where my kid can go to school. I realize they can't deny her access, just since I can't drive I need her to be able to get to the school.

School bus drivers are extremely well vetted and trained and every school bus is designed and built like a tank to meet federal certification requirements. They are actually the safest vehicles on the road. Your 5 year old will be safer riding a school bus than riding in your family's car.

I know it isn't easy to entrust a child to a big yellow bus but it's safe.

Most school districts have a transportation department where the school bus fleet parks overnight and a where they have a maintenance garage to keep the fleet running safely. You can call the transportation department and ask them to stop at your front door. If you let them know you're blind and can't get your kindergarten student to a scheduled bus stop they will add a stop at your front door. They can tell you which bus your child will be on and what time your child will be picked up and dropped off.

Lastly, it doesn't matter if you live near a school or far away, there's a school bus assigned to pick up kids wherever they live. Out in the desert, up on a mountain, in an apartment building, there's a school bus. The drive might be longer but the bus is there for you.

You have no idea how much better that makes me feel. I've been so worried.
