Questions from a 37yo (Healthy) Male Who MAY be Losing His Vision: (self.Blind)
submitted by AKreignyday
Hi there - Title explains most of it - I'm 37yo healthy male who, a few weeks ago, started seeing flickering in the corner of my eyes when I woke up. I then noticed that all the white lights were a dull yellow and I can no longer see in the dark well.

It came out of NOWHERE, which is why I'm freaking out a little bit. I have always had great vision, I take care of my body, my eyes are NOT discolored and can still see well during the day!

Anyone else have something like this happen? Could this be "retinitis pigmentosa" ?

I don't think anyone in my family has had this.

TO BE CLEAR: I will go to an eye doctor, but this is just so strange to me.

Any help/advice would be appreciated

The odds its RP is very low as its usually diagnosed in adolescence and twenties. Its very possible it could be vitreous degeneration. There is a jelly in the back of you eye that helps it keep its shape among other functions. It is attached to your retina, with aging, trauma, and many other reasons, that jelly could pull off of your retina. As light enters your eye, that could cause flashes of light as the jelly is no longer flush as it was. It could also have damaged your retina, also causing flashes and these color issues you have noticed. DM me and I can talk to you more if you want!

Just wanted to add that RP can be diagnosed later in life. I was diagnosed when I was 36, and showed no symptoms until then. My main symptom being night blindness.

lol! That's such a polite way to tell me, "HEY DUMMY! Stop looking this crap up on your own!"

You are right, and I promise I'll stop self diagnosing :)

Haha perfectly normal to have anxiety about that stuff when its out of the blue! Your eye doctor will take care of you, no need to worry!

I've had similar, in the last 2 years, blurred vision, tv static, very short episodes like nystagmus,

And lots of symptoms of retinal detachment, optician couldn't see anything odd, sent me immediately for opthalmology and it's not anything serious. They have no idea whats going on but it's not my eyes. It's more annoying than anything.

I just wanted to try to reassure you that it could be an age related thing! I was 38 when it started!
