Any tips on how to deal with dizziness; especially as the passenger in a vehicle? (self.Blind)

I have always gotten motion sick, but now its much worse since my vision is all wavy. Even if I shut my eyes, its just as bad or worse. I know about meclizine and dramamine but those are not good to take long term. Any practical tips or alternatives to meclizine?

Ginger candies worked for me. And as annoying as it may be, this too shall pass, hopefully, as your brain adapts to this new situation.

This is impossible if a car is reversing, which is when I feel the most dizzy, but if a car is driving forward I just focus on what’s in front of me. Other than that, I don’t know what else can be done.

Put headphones in that play music.



Recline seat all the way back.



Point a fan straight at your face or crack window.



Focus on the horizon (if you can). Sometimes if you can hold your eyes straight it will be enough to sync with your inner ear and stop it. Even if visually it's still wavy for you.



Drink something carbonated but not caffeinated.



Get motion sickness bands for your wrists. They slightly squeeze your wrist and sometimes can serve as a focus aid that helps you stay steadier (doesn't work for everyone). Think kind of like a meditation aid. Do you NEED incense or water dripping etc etc to meditate? No but it can help focus you better. Motion sickness bands basically help you remember your balance same way.




These are just multiple ideas. Doing all of these at same time are not likely to work but maybe one or two of them can help you.



Most of this is second hand from me helping my wife with her motion sickness. I've never had much of a problem with it even with my vision getting worse. She has the problem with perfect vision though.

Other posters have mentioned the wristbands that push on a pressure point in your wrists. Some people swear by them, didn't work at all for me. If it does work for you, you don't need the wristbads, put pressure on your own pressure point with the other hand.


Ginger has been shown to reduce nausea and upset stomach / motion sickness. Dramamine makes a ginger chew, other people here have recommended non-caffeinated carbonated drinks - ginger ale may help (especially the ones heavy on the ginger), or experiment with powdered / raw ginger (depending on your tastes).


For me, the single most effective thing with nausea (I have struggled with motion sickness my whole life and I have spent a week in the hospital with nausea so intense I could not stand) is cooling my face - get my face wet and then keep a lot of air moving over it. Find a portable fan with insane CFM ratings (usually has a battery pack, not a couple AAAs).

Omg thank you so much you are an absolute life saver! In going on a shopping spree tonight haha. I also find that the cold helps when on my face and neck so I bought an ice pack face mask and it's great!

I have cortical blindness so I get bad motion sickness. I find the best thing that helps me is our car has a sky light I will put my head back and focus on the clouds/sky so that I do not see any movement from the car.

You will not see things moving by as fast the sky kind of does its own thing and is slow :) For me its trying to focus on the moving objects that causes it when my brain can not see them. Hope it helps. If not you can try maybe a cooling eye mask. I can't wear eye masks when I am awake as they make me anxious.

oh my god vision loss motion sickness is the worst. I spend half an hour in a car and I just feel awful. Here are some tips I've found. For 2+ hour car rides, I tend to just give in and take dramamine.

Super cold drinks, the colder the better, help me. Smoothies work pretty well.

Forcing your eyes to stay straight helps me a bit, but this is hard to maintain. Forcing your whole body to be still can help this.

Sometimes I can just distract myself by having a conversation, but this is variable.

Listening to music helps me a bit.

iirc some people say zofran doesn't work, but honestly it's worked for me for the unrelenting nausea. It's prescription only though, at least in the US.

I also love zofran but lately it's been giving me headaches. It really is the worst, isn't it! Good tio on the cold drinks. Thank you!
