What is a decent voice recorder for taking notes?(self.Blind)
submitted by Douglington_III
G’day all. My wife has RP and just got a new job she has been looking forward to for ages. She is a lecturer at a university and I though a cool gift to surprise her with would be a voice recorder device that she can take verbal notes and playback mid lecture. Does anybody have experience with these and could you recommend one that would use wireless/ bluetooth earphones? We live in Australia so anything from an office works suffice?
Thank you 🙏

Any reason why it would need to be a dedicated device? I ask because the voice memos app and the Just Press Record app on the iPhone are both great and accessible.

voice memos is pretty good, I like the folders organization. Is just press record similar?

Organisation and file naming is so much better in voice memos. Just press record is cool because it is incredibly simple and very quick to start recording. It also has a transcription feature which is passable.

I've been using Alon Dictaphone for the past months because it sincs with dropbox. But it's way too complicated to do some stuff, I might go back to voice memos for the more intuitive folder system.

This is also really great info thank you. I will check both of those out. I have little context so would love to hear others experience with this type of tech both hardware and software.

My husband uses a Victor reader streamer. I dont know the specs but he uses it to record lectures, take notes, etc....sorry, it's not much info but if you look it up you can probably find more information on it

I'd use an iphone with voice memos or a good alternative. She can use it to type with a bluetooth keyboard to take writen notes too.

I still lug around a real dictaphone just because it's quicker than fiddling around with a phone, but it's super ancient and not made anymore. I do get the idea of not wanting to carry 101 things, I just like the fact that it's literally one keystroke to make it work. If you do decide to pick up something specific maybe make sure it goes from sitting in your bag to recording in as few button presses as possible, and that the fast forward and rewind is quick and responsive, because what you actually find yourself doing mainly is futzing with it to find something you know you recorded.
I still miss the ones that take the tiny cassette tapes because their fast forward and rewind was really snappy. Argh, digital sucks sometimes.
Yes I am dating myself.

Her phone may be the best option just in terms of minimalizing devices.

Also you can check this one $1 free online voice recorder. It's a simple and easy to use audio recorder that lets you record your voice online, without needing any additional software.

if she otherwise uses a computer and needs something no-frills, I use this on my phone when I don't need transcription but want access to the recordings at my desk:
