How do people who are visually impaired learn Tai chi/yoga virtually?(self.Blind)
submitted by Mistriss_lotus
I know described video exists, but the described video on the ones I have on cable are still saying like " the speaker does downward dog " ... If you do not do yoga already, then how are you finding out how to move your body in the poses , AND how to do it safely, virtually like during Covid? I have to pause, and rewind , and really get my eyes involved and I'm still falling over , and maybe it's just my brain but I don't think I could accurately describe some movements in such a way that someone else would understand it and I got very curious so here I am.
Thank you for your time.

I was discussing this very topic with someone the other week and came to the conclusion it is not an entirely solved problem, currently.
The best advice I can give re: yoga is the programs by the now discontinued BlindAlive, which had audiodescriptions of the various poses and how to attain them. No idea about tai chi though.. Those programs should still be available somewhere if you google some :)

I describe very slow and detailed what to do

I use Down Dog which gives pretty thorough descriptions of how to achieve the poses.

Oh cool. Sorry it's been a while. I have had some time to do yoga/stretches based on how my body feels instead of trying to match the visuals on TV and honestly I think us people who are doing it by watching are not doing it right . At all. Now, I've got a disconnect from body sometimes so maybe other people don't ignore pain/discomfort as much but I think even subconsciously we would be trying to match what the instructor is doing. I am going to find this, and try it. Mindful moving is completely changing my body and it doesn't feel the same when I'm watching but I don't know alot of poses haha

Good question, I don't know why it got down voted.
A friend of mine does jiu jitsu. From what I know, the instructor just helps put the person in the proper position. At least for fighting, a lot of things are tactile anyway.

yoga is basically the same I think. That's how I do my workouts.

Oh I know why it got downvoted basically for no reason. I mean I haven’t heard anyone bring it up but it’s really a problem. Every new post I see on this sub someone is quick to downvote. I’m assuming it’s either someone very judgmental in the sub or someone outside of the sub who hates this sub.

Oh is it a problem? Another comment said down dog is a thing if you didn't see it. Yeah, some people are mean for no reason. I can't think of any way my question would be offensive, AND I was seeing if it was a thing people needed because I recently discovered I like making videos and stuff and I often wonder about small niche problems I could help with , even if only a little - when I'm just following my interest in doing new unique things .
