User research on accessibility for the blind (self.Blind)
submitted by thomasyung88
Hi everyone,

I have noticed that not all companies take accessibility as a priority, and I want to change that. I am looking for any resources that you can recommend so that I can learn everything about this topic. I would love to also do some user interviews to find out all the challenges that many of you face (specifically when working in the Enterprise space). Feel free to respond here or send me a direct message.

Thanks!
Thomas

Bit of a big ask there, OP :) You want to learn everything there is to know about every kind of accessibility for every kind of product? That will take a while :)

Do you mean primarily websites? If so I can recommend Deque University and I believe there's a Trusted Tester Microsoft Training Program thingie as well although I don't have personal experience with that one.

Granted, those resources are mostly aimed at people who actually build websites so I'm not sure how useful they'd be for you as i really don't know what your angle is exactly :)

Deque has a program for project managers, which could be useful on this context.

I currently work in an Enterprise UX team for a major healthcare org and I want to see if there are resources for making sure software we select for the enterprise meet accessibility needs. Also, I don’t want to be the only one who champions this at my company. I want to make sure to bring everyone along by creating some kind of governance or program. I want to know if there are others who have gone through this at their company, so I can pick their brain on how to accomplish this at my company.

Hi. I work as a test analyst at a large financial company that takes accessibility seriously. The major issue is getting that culture change through and a main reason for that was complaints from blind users. Honestly if you know blind people who have issues using your services, get them to contact the higher ups. It will get more change done than any internal staff effort.

Who do you represent? This post bit odd.... Are you representing a company or the government?

No hidden agenda. Just an individual trying to carve out a niche in design for accessibility. Have there been people that have tried to take advantage of folks here?

Great Answer. Sorry, once in awhile we get weird posts on here and yours start that vibe. No worries :D
