I'm 17 years old and have a pecription of -11.5 for both of my eyes. I'm wondering if glasses at a higher ramge can still be produced and if I can do lasik. Any advice and comments will be helpful, thank you.

There’s a sub for glasses called r/glasses I think or something like that. This sub is called r/blind because we have visual impairments that glasses can’t fix. But yes I’m pretty sure glasses in minus can go to -30 but are just harder to get the prescription correct and are more expensive. You also have to go through a optometrist to order them since you can’t order a prescription past -10 online.
I know with LASIK it depends on different factors whether or not you qualify for it and there are other eye surgeries available if you don’t. I heard from my aunt that it’s amazing though she payed like $2,000 and it lasted for 10 years which is when it started to get a little blurry again.
Edit:just read that you are 17 you can’t get it until you are at-least 18 and your eyes are stable (no prescription change for certain amount of time)

You should definitely talk to your doctor about it, because some eyes can't support LASIK surgery of that prescription. And there is always a minor chance the eye could heal itself. I've had a friend who had LASIK, the eye healed, he got it redone, and the eye healed again. He was not able to get it at third time.

Many Lasik surgeons offer a free consultation, you may want to take advantage of this. As far as glasses go, I had a correction similar to yours before cataract surgery. I didn’t like regular glasses because of the peripheral distortion. I needed clear peripheral vision b/c of my job. So I used rigid gas permeable contact lenses. Optics were nice and crisp, no distortion. Granted, it’s a learning curve, but it gave me perfect vision for several years.

do you think using contact lenses are safe enough to use before lasik?I'm wondering because It could cause dry eyes

I don’t know specifically about lasik, but I wore my rigid contacts until three days before my cataract surgery. There doesn’t seem to be contra- indications, but surgeon will ask you to be without contacts for 3 to 7 days before surgery, especially when it involves precise measurements. Chronic contacts wearing induces swelling that could skew measurements, hence the need to take them out before surgery. Now everyone will react differently, some will tolerate rgp’s better, some will develop dry eyes, etc. This is where having a good optometrist is paramount: they will lay down the options you have, teach you how to deal with contacts if you choose so, solve issues should they arise and refer you to a good lasik surgeon. Hope that helps!

I’ve been told for myopia, glasses can be produced up to -20 before they become too large to be comfortable. You would need to talk to a LASIK surgeon for evaluation of your eligibility for that procedure. For example, I personally have a thick cornea so the restructuring of that to correct my myopia would be of little concern for me, but I have other eye problems that make me not a good candidate.

Definitely something to talk to your eye doctors about, to make sure your eyes are something that can be fixed with LASIK. For example, my eye condition is all in my retina (the cone cells don’t work properly), and no matter what my prescription is, LASIK can’t fix it.
