can anyone else smell emotions? (self.Blind)
submitted by complex-blobfish
i am unsure if this comes 100% from my blindness, as i have other sense related disabilities. i can smell some emotions, even if the person is hiding it and i wanted to know how many other blind people find they can do this too. my blind friends say they know what i mean but they only smell anger and panic. so i will explain the smells of those two.

it is not just humans either, i can smell it in dogs too, that is the only other animal i have tested this with though.

anger is probably the strongest smell and most noticeable, it smells like wet copper and is hot when it goes into the nostril, like a muggy day, the air feels thicker than usual. also it always smells like it is coming from the soft spot on their head. same with dogs.

panic smells a little like infection coming out of their breath, hands and feet. it is less offensive of a smell than an actual infection, but it smells strong enough to notice when not looking for the smell.

has anyone else noticed this. if not give it a go and get back to me if you can smell it.

I can't, and I have never heard of such a thing. I am skeptical.

that is fair enough, it does sound a little crazy. and it might have nothing to do with my blindness and be more related to my other sensory issues.

to be clear though, this is not 100% effective all the time and it only works with certain emotions.

just something i noticed and began playing around with.

Good point. I don't have any sensory issues besides my blindness. I am definitely going to be *sniffing* around a little more.

I can. With my eyes and ears varying levels of fucked, something had to work. Fun fact, I have horrific asthma AND COPD from birth.

God has a sense of humor.

I’ve never heard of this before, it’s rather interesting

I wonder if Pheromones are released?

that is what i am curious of.

why do they come from certain points in the body??

Weirdly enough, yes I can. Although I am only able to smell the following: anger, stress, love, sadness, joy and that mude.
I thought I was just insane.

does anger smell like warm wet copper to you?

that is what it smells like to me.
Krinz4577 1 points 1y ago
Not exactly sure what warm wet copper smells like so I can't really say. The only way I can describe anger is like rotting intense morning breath. The smell is mostly the same for everyone, but it kinda mixes with that person's natural sent, so it changes for every individual.

I notice a different smell in myself and my partner when we're sick or extremely stressed. It smells sour, musty, and off. It's not a blind thing though. I talked to my friends and a lot of them can smell it too in their loved ones.

do you know what, i never even thought of asking any sighted people if they can do this?

i will be asking everyone now.

Sounds like a form of $1, but I'm no doctor.

i do actually have synesthesia, this is why i am wondering if it is just the synesthesia or just the blindness. or if it is a mixture of the two. i also have a sensory disorder meaning my senses are overworked and extremely sensitive, so instead of smelling a cake like a normal person, i can smell the flour, eggs, sugar, butter etc. all individually. so maybe it is that aswell.

most people have no clue what synesthesia is, well done dude.
