Ways to stay active while stuck indoors? (self.Blind)
submitted by zomgperry
I lost most of my vision in early June. I’m very photophobic and live in a dangerously hot climate so going outdoors for exercise isn’t an option at the moment. I also live in an upstairs apartment and don’t want to disturb my downstairs neighbors. I’m home alone during the week when my partner is at work so I’ve got a lot of time to kill.

Does anyone know of some good blind friendly resources for indoor exercises that won’t bother my downstairs neighbors?

Yoga? There are a bunch of yoga videos on youtube. the beginner classes tend to give descriptions of the poses since a lot of the time they preclude looking at a screen while doing them.. You might have to figure out what sit bones are.. I'm still not exactly sure.

Try doing 8-10 Sun salutations. Here is a link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4Z7lix6Qao

You might have to look up DOwnward facing dog because she relies a little heavily on the visuals but it is _the_ yoga pose that everyone thinks of.

Also, yoga can be a bit woo woo. So if you are in to that then great but if not, then just realize that what they mean is to pay attention to what you are doing.

Pros:
- Free
- Can be an actual workout
- Can be done quietly so as to not annoy the neighbors

Cons:
- You might already be into yoga or hate it already
- You might be either already too strong or flexible for this sort of thing and find it a bit boring.. there are other things to try to make it more active or less depending on what you want.
- yoga instruction vides involve skinny women in tight pants so if your partner is the jealous type then you'll need to involve them in finding new workouts

Darebee has a lot of good bodyweight workouts. However, it is mostly graphics, so I'm not sure if you have a magnifier that could read it (or have your partner read off the workouts so you know what they are).

https://darebee.com/workouts.html

The workouts range from beginning to pretty advanced, so plenty to chose from.

A friend of mine has also recommended Eyes-Free Fitness, although I haven't had any experience with it myself.

Try Tai Chi. There was a description for some a while back.

I am totally blind as well, have you considered resistance bands? They provide a pretty good workout and they are very quiet.
