Interested in being an Audio Describer (self.Blind)

I am tempted to give this profession a shot, but have a few reservations. Would really appreciate any input from the Audio Describers here.
Is there much demand for something like this?
How flexible are the hours? I would like to do this part time.
Are you getting the majority of your work from your local area or remotely?
Are the positions available mainly employee or independent contractor positions?
What is the pay range for someone starting out? I don't trust online listings.

Audio description really has made a difference for me when watching movies. With that being said, I think it would be a great field choice. You would definitely be making a difference.
