Collecting things while blind (self.Blind)
submitted by EvilChocolateCookie
Hello everyone. Recently I've taken an interest in those pop Vinland figurines. Normally those are collectibles and get left in the display boxes. However, I can't see them. I take them out of the box so I can feel the details. I know that decreases the value, but what choice is there? Do any of you collect things? If so, how do you handle similar issues? What are your thoughts in general on this topic?

I like funko pops and I take them out of the box because I don’t really care I don’t plan on selling them, they are mine and I’m gonna keep them.

Idk in my opinion I don’t like things that are just meant to sit somewhere and look pretty every thing i buy I’m going to use.

Idk maybe when I’m older and have my own house I might feel different and want to keep nice stuff nice but for now nope.

Do you mind if I ask how many you've got and which ones? You can message me or some thing if you don't think the mods would want us posting this kind of thing all over the public thread.

I feel the same way.

I feel like Pop Vinyls would be the next Beanie Babies fad, so don’t worry about value :P I’m not a big collector, honestly. I do have a few Pop figures. What figures do you have?

Alex Trebek, Vanna White, and President Snow from the hunger games.

That’s awesome. From the top of my head, I’ve got a few Pokémon, Ruby Rose from RWBY and a Loki which was my first one

Nice. I love the detail on them.

I collect vintage dresses from the 60s. The materials are mostly cotton and wool with different weaves and every manner or closures. Very tactile and meant to be worn. If it can't be touched, it doesn't have a place in my house.

Understood.

Mostly, I buy things because I like them, not because I'm concerned about their value or reselling them. If I do have the rare occasion where I want to keep something in great condition and still enjoy it, I'll just... buy two! It's probably only happened 3-4 times.

Makes sense

I love collecting funko pops! I've debated taking them out the boxes, but they stack together so nicely on my shelf. Clearly they're designed to be displayed in the box so it'd feel like I was throwing part of the product away. So I've also started collecting the pop minis now. You can get most of the big pops as mini characters- one to display on the shelf and a smaller one to pick up and show other blind friends.

I don't have a dedicated shelf. I tend to handle them quite a bit.

If you don't need to stack lots of them together then it's probably best to just take them out the boxes. Collections are meant to be enjoyed!

I think they're kind of cute with those comically large heads and all.

They're super cute! Which pops do you collect? I mostly go for the Disney and Harry Potter ones.

I hadn't actually planned on getting rid of anything. I rarely get rid of anything, unless it's broken or I don't use it
