i use matte finish high visibility large print braille cards. all my friends have varying levels of sight and ability to read braille.

matte finish helped a lot for those with low vision as it stopped glare becoming an issue.

large print for low vision people and for the sighties.

braille for the rest of us. they have the number and the suit.

the high visibility bit just means that there are 4 colours for the suits instead of 2. white with black outline, blue, orange and neon green. but colours vary in different sets.

the only problem is you will never be able to just pick up a set at the shop for £1. they cost like £10-20 for a good set, and an extra £2-4 if you want the matte finish.

as for alternatives, i have not really found any games that can't be adapted for my blindness in some way.i even still play sports like football (soccer) with my sighted friends included (we blind them sometimes for fun, but not always lol.)

chess needs no adaption other than a textured board, anything with words can have braille over the top, sighties will still see the letters. twister can have textured spinner and mat. anything with pieces can be altered with braille added or the piece itself changed. rubix cube can be textured (they call it the genius cube lol).

for game that you are throwing something a distance, we have a little weight on the end of a 20m string, when it is one of us blind folks turn, someone puts the weight at the centre point of the target. we hold the end of the string (fairly loose but off the ground.) we swipe it and wave it to get a grip of the dimensions, angles and distance. it takes about 5-10 seconds, then we throw.

it doesn't make us brilliant at the game, but we don't miss every time and at least we can get it close enough to win some points.

I'm just legally blind, so use large print, but still annoying trying to read them, especially if light isn't the greatest. I'd assume there are probably decks that are both visual and use braile both, though?

Braille cards, large print cards, cards with QR codes that you can scan with a smartphone to hear what's on them
