The issue is that you are going to keep losing your visual fields. You are at 60 degrees now. But what about a month or two from now. And when you are losing your field they don’t necessarily go evenly. They may not allow you to continue driving either way because they may not consider your vision to be stable and there is no way of knowing how fast or slow you will lose the rest of your fields. I’m not saying this to scare you I’m saying this because while driving right now is your current concern you really need to get in contact with your local commission for the blind to see about getting training now so that you have some skills if and or when you lose the rest of your vision. It’s better to start now while you still have some rather than later when you might not have as much.

I have students with RP. The loss of field of vision is what prevents them from obtaining a driver's license. It also deems them ineligible for bioptic driving.

I'm sorry for your diagnosis, but life isn't over. Have you learned about your local disability transit service? I would apply for that asap.

Have you begun O&M training? Learning Braille? RP can progress very quickly, especially as you age. Begin learning independent skills now while you still have decent residual vision. You can contact your local office for vocational rehabilitation for information on available services.

Best of luck to you!
