Is this Job discrimination or am I just overthinking this? (self.Blind)
submitted by TurtleKnife
So I’ve been working at an internship for a media company for the last month or so. This internship was intended to present what I have to offer and where would be the best position for my skill set. Last week my boss called me and asked me how I’m liking what I’m doing so far. I said I really like what I’m doing. For some context moving forward at this company we make videos for clients. Whenever we have a client visit “usually” only one person goes for that particular client. Since I’m an intern they have been letting me tag along and get experience doing client visits. My boss tells me that he thinks that having two people per visit would effect the cost. Which he is right about that but in order to do my potential job I need someone to drive me. He also tells me that he would need to find a job that I could do that would be profitable which I understand. It’s a business I get it. My expertise is audio production he told me that if I have any ideas on that a job could potential he be I’ll let him know and he’ll be thinking of stuff as well. However, their main focus is video and not audio per se but I’ve talk to him and I’ve asked questions about their audio set up and stuff like that and asking if they were going to refine it or make it better and he was not very content with changing anything. Also at this internship I’m not really doing anything I mainly have to come up with stuff on my own to do and no one really need help when I ask or has tasks for me to do. I’m seriously thinking about quitting because I feel like I’m being discriminated against because of my vision even though I know I can do the job. In my résumé shows that I can do it as well.

It sounds more like just a bad internship than any sort of active discrimination.

Is it possible to pick up a project and prove yourself somehow? Maybe ask another employee directly if you can work on the same project and just come up with some work product to show off your skills and how you can add value?
