Can blind people who previously have vision visualize images and memories in the same way? (self.Blind)

as a former sighted person, this question makes me kinda sad and angry at the same time because of how silly it is. it's like asking if you're able to remember a book after you've stopped reading it.

i still have dreams where i can see just fine in them, and everything seems "normal" from a sighted person's perspective. it's only after I wake up I am reminded that it was a dream because opening my eyes doesn't change anything

How is it a silly question?

because before the post was removed, you literally asked “if i blind myself right now then could i see images in my head?”

You aren’t going to instantly forget what things looked like if you could see before. Your lack of sight doesn’t destroy your memory of things. It’s just like I said in my analogy, putting the book down doesn’t make you instantly forget what is in it. If your keyboard wasn’t in front of you, do you forget how it works?

That's such a bad way to look at things

your response doesn’t make much sense to me. can you please elaborate on what you mean by this?

1. Don’t blind yourself!
2. It depends on the individual, what caused the blindness, what is their stored and acquired information, I.e. do they have context for the image. Example, if they had context for a whale, and context for a unicorn they could merge those images when being described a narwhal.

I think that it depends on the condition that caused your blindness. If it's an injury to your visual cortex then it might affect your ability to create mental images, otherwise and unless you suffer from aphantasia you should be able to do it. I've been totally blind for 7 years due to optic nerve atrophy caused by glaucoma and, despite not having any visual input for that long, haven't lost that ability yet.
