Blind-accessible live local TV options? (self.Blind)
submitted by zidnaut
Anyone have any insights/tips for a relatively simple and bulletproof solution for voice-driven US television channel/program selection -- primarily live local major networks -- for an elderly blind person?

I previously had FireTV plus Locast for local networks, but the FireTV never searched into or screen-read the Locast guide listings, and Locast just ceased operations. Prior to that was Roku+Locast, but Roku's screen reader voice was incomprehensibly robotic. Live too far away from towers to receive most OTA DTV antenna signals. Considering Xfinity X1, Dish Network, or DirectTV but can't find many details on their relative accessibility/voice-search merits. Don't care too much about streaming-only channels. Any help is most appreciated.

Another option would be AppleTV but from what I understand; it doesn't give you local stations just streaming services. It has voiceover which is a screen reader like Talkback but for Tpple.

I believe the sony tvs talk, I think they use talkback. The voice can be a bit robotic but the voice is understandable.

Here's a video of a guy turning the feature off but you can hear what it sounds like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88_ITakydnw
