Describe a lot. I'm fully blind so I want to know every important detail.

Unless the silence is for dramatic effect and putting words there would ruin it, I want every lull in conversation filled with description. I want to know exactly what's going on.

I love audio description, and I’ve even tried my hand at it myself. There are two things that are an absolute never do for me. Never talk over dialogue. Insert whatever you have to say into a pause during dialogue. Never use severe audio ducking to duck all of the music and sound effects just so you can get your description in. Even a half way mixing job can make this unnecessary. It’s way overused and I hate it. I do prefer more lengthy description because it gives me a lot of nuance. I do have some vision but I prefer to watch things with audio description anyway when possible so that I get everything that happens. I really notice it when it’s not there. ironically even my fully sided wife often watches things with audio description because she finds especially in some shows the description actually adds a layer of understanding she may not always have. Especially in science fiction.

It honestly really depends on the show. Mad Men for me personally had just enough description, whereas The Expanse left a little bit to be desired when I tried to watch it. I should also add that I watch along with the audio description.

For me it depends on the type of thing I am watching and how fatigued my eyes are. It’s hard for action movies because sometimes the description intrudes on the fight sequences which rely heavily on their music to keep it interesting. Also any movie with a sex scene gets really awkward with audio descriptions lol

I can't handle when they talk over the dialog, especially when they're louder than the dialog. I had to watch an important instructional video for work and the description was cranked up but the dialog was low and I couldn't focus on the dialog, which was the important part. I don't need to know the guy looked middle age, had a green button up shirt. Context matters. He was giving a safety demonstration. I need to know if he was wearing protective equipment and what he was doing.

are there any examples of dialogue being talked over in movies or shows? of the hundreds of hours of content i've listened to, i have yet to come across overlapping tracks like this

What Rose said. I want as much detail as I can get.

More descriptions!!
P.S Apart from Netflix, is there any other online service with TV Shows or Movies with audio descriptions?
gunfart1 points1y ago
there's a vault of audio content online that google could probably point you towards... some people say that one certain site is kinda like "he that shall not be named"here but the resources are online and free if you look in the right place.

Just found the vault for audio, thanks to another user here! Thank you SOO much

Yeah, sorry I didn’t just flat out link you to it because some people get a little butt hurt and make claims that it is illegal and all sorts of other weird stuff. Shrug. Glad you found it, enjoy!

I like audio description for both tv shows and movies as long as it doesn't step on dialogue. (As far as audio described porn goes, no thanks! It's too distracting. That idea can just go off somewhere and die in my opinion.)

Just enough that I know as much as anyone else. I don't need to know Mrs. Smith is wearing a red shirt, unless of course that is important.
